Do These Colors Run?

oldgloryShortly after 11 September 2001, many Americans declared, “These colors don’t run.” This was in reference to the colors of the flag of this nation that was now under attack. It was a statement declaring that Americans would not run in fear from terrorists. Does this still hold true?

A decade and a half later, Americans have elected Humpty Dumpty to build a great wall. He coddled their fears and told them that they could hide behind this great wall because he would keep the bad people out. Has America become a nation of cowards ruled by a fear-monger?

There are poor and downtrodden people being oppressed in foreign lands by the same antagonists who have attacked Americans. These people are in desperate need of humanitarian relief. They are in dire need of the same refuge Americans apparently desire, but Americans do not suffer like those asylum seeking refugees. However, Americans are even afraid of the refugees?

A majority of Americans profess to be Christian. However, reports indicate that a majority of those alleged Christians elected Humpty Dumpty, also. Apparently, perfect love does not cast out fear (see John 4:18-20) and these people do not know the compassion of Christ. How can anyone claim to be “Christian” and turn their back on people in such desperate need? Has America become a nation of hypocrites, as well as cowards?

A liar cannot be trusted, and Humpty Dumpty has lied to the American people. He told Americans that he would open his tax returns to public scrutiny if elected, but still refuses to do so. He told Americans that Mexico would pay for his great wall, but Mexico said, “No!” Apparently, Mexicans are not as gullible as Americans. Nevertheless, Humpty Dumpty plans to build his great wall anyway. Guess who is going to pay for it. Has America become a nation of gullible hypocrites and cowards?

Humpty Dumpty took an oath to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States.” As the highest official representing this nation, Humpty Dumpty has other nations wondering if this nation will honor the agreements it has made or will make with them. Humpty Dumpty’s lack of personal honor now tarnishes the honor of the United States. It is uncertain if he knows about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the associated covenants that have been ratified by the United States. Has he abandon those treaties, too? Will he even honor the promises this government made to its own people?

Humpty Dumpty has already demonstrated that he either disregards, or is ignorant of his own nation’s practices and standards, particularly those concerning freedom of speech and the press. Although his oath also included preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States, it is uncertain if he knows that the Constitution limits his authority. Some of his actions already constitute an abuse of that authority. However, none of this truly epitomizes his incompetence in fulfilling his duties as President.

Humpty Dumpty ignores factual information established by extensive research and intelligence when formulating solutions for this nation’s problems and making plans for our collective future. How he would justify a nuclear response… he was feeling “bigly?” He acts irresponsibly and without reason. This single character trait clearly establishes that he is not fit for the office of the President of the United States. So why are other American leaders so willing to play patty-cakes with Humpty Dumpty? Is Congress filled with hypocrites and cowards, too?

The corrupt politicians kissing up to Humpty Dumpty need to realize how exposed their characters are to public discernment now. Osama bin Laden laughs at them from his grave. Yes, Congress is filled with hypocrites and cowards who fear losing prestige and power, but their honor is deteriorating rapidly.

I do not believe true Americans are cowards. I do not even believe that all who voted for Humpty Dumpty are cowards. The 2016 election did not provide Americans with a good choice for president; the American constituency were the guaranteed losers of this election, regardless of who won the contest. However, this election did expose the many worms who “came out of the [proverbial] woodwork” to feed off the carcass of a corrupt government. These worms need to understand that the only way they will ever feel truly safe is to dig a deep hole, climb in and pull the earth in over themselves. Of course, some of the hypocrites may discover a scripture that says even that will not save them. Regardless, it is time to recognize the superhero without a cape they thought they were getting is really just a clown without makeup.

True Americans remember the Day of Infamy and its lesson; isolationism does not work. Real Americans also know that the legitimacy and purpose of this government was established in a historic document before the Constitution was written, and that equality is the cornerstone of this nation:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” (The Declaration of Independence).

Real Americans know that Equality was not perfected when this nation was established, but rather that it is a work-in-progress. Many Americans have sacrificed their lives for this work, and their sacrifices are not forgotten by the true Americans who carry this work forward. Any attempt to “restore” this nation to an earlier state is an attempt to diminish the Equality that has not yet been perfected. The only people against equality are those who fear difference and work to establish their own kind as an elite class… a “master race.” Real Americans recognize the danger of inequality, as do other citizens of this world.

Humpty Dumpty lacks the competence, integrity, or temperament to occupy the Office of the President of the United States. He has quickly revealed himself to be an American disgrace and embarrassment. The security of the United States of America and the stature of this nation in the world community requires that this disgrace be removed from office.

Are there any true leaders left in Congress? Will they do what is right, or what is easy? Do any remain that are capable of rational thought? Do they think my assessment of real Americans is accurate? Who will control the houses of Congress in two years… if this does not blow up in their faces before then? The post-election protests have been unprecedented and they are unlikely to stop… unless Humpty Dumpty falls. This government clearly lacks the consent of many of the governed, and the ones who do consent are afraid. These colors do not run from enemies… foreign or domestic.

I am an American, and I am not running.

At the End of the World

We have come to the end and peer into an abyss. What do you see? The world, as we know it, is gone. What has changed? You and me?

Have you heard the story about the little boy who cried wolf? Whenever he held watch over the fold of sheep, he thought it was hilarious to watch the whole village run out to the fields when he would shout, “WOLF! WOLF!” He ignored the rebuke of the village elders. When he thoroughly trained the village to ignore his cries, a wolf finally appeared and that was the end of the child. In the end, he did not laugh.

What can be said of this generation of ours? Which is more foolish: the childish mind that sensationalizes doomsday prophecies for viewership and advertising dollars, or the childish mind that has not learned to ignore false alarms? While the former loses credibility, the latter appears to get what they deserve. Who knows the meaning of these words:

Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me!

We have heard many prophesies of doom in this generation, but countless are such prophesies in the annals of humankind. Some wail that this may be the one time the proverbial “wolf” actually appears. The analogy breaks down here, though. What do you think you can do if the end of the world is truly at hand?

cemeteryAt the end of the world we peer into an abyss and what do we see? We see folly and fear. How can anyone truly live when all they do is worry about doom and death. The answer is simple: they cannot. They exist in the endless darkness of an abyss created with fear and folly. To some, the passing of the Mayan Apocalypse without a physical end to the world may simple mean they are condemned to continue with a miserable existence. After all, we still have to deal with all the other seemingly impossible problems facing humankind. Of course, these problems are bound to appear impossible when you peer out from the dark abyss of fear and folly. It is time to step into the light.

The Lady of Rains recently wrote about gratitude. Gratitude seems to be a trait of the light. When we do not appreciate what we have, we are left wanting more. The relationship between gratitude and greed seems inversely proportional: the less we appreciate the things we have, the greater our desire for more things. It is this very lack of gratitude that is depleting our planetary resources. It is greed that precipitated a global economic collapse four years ago. The fear of losing worldly treasures drives us to accumulate to excess, and does not allow time to be grateful for what we do have. Gratitude is the antithesis of greed, and it is not too late to step out of the darkness and into the light. The bard sings:

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on.

There are signs that more and more people are rejecting the abyss. I suspect the stress of the Mayan Apocalypse may have been the “straw that broke the camel’s back.” No, this world did not meet a cataclysmic end on December 21st, 2012. However, the question remains as to whether the “world as we knew it” ended on that day. One thing we should know for certain is that the doomsayers are very negative people.

 

The Dark Lady

The Dark Lady comes in the time of the scythe’s last swings. The Harvest is a time of reaping, a time of death. It is a time of darkness when the days grow short and the nights grow cold. She is the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of each breath. She is the ending before the renewal.

She walks among us selecting the finest grains for Herself, but the chaff is dropped upon the threshing floor. She is the fury that rips the flesh from injustice. She slits the throats of the cruel and drinks the blood of the heartless. She makes the arrogant humble. She is the warrior who rights all wrongs in their Time.

She is the Mother of Mysteries who comes cloaked in darkness. She is the Crone of old who possesses ancient wisdom. She is that which is hidden, secluded, and forbidden. She is the darkness behind and beneath every shadow. She is the dark womb from which all things come, and the shadowy tomb to which all things must return. She is the One who calls to you at the end of your journey, the final dusk. It is a mystery how Death sustains Life. When She stands before you and looks deep into your eyes, you will face the terror that is yours alone.

Oh, to be pure of heart and above reproach, for She is the passionate and seductive lover who inspires the poet to dream. Grasp her hand in the passage between worlds and She will lead you through the darkness; the Moon is Her sigil and Her promise. While She is an instrument of self-destruction to those who toy with her, to the true seeker She brings knowledge and pleasure beyond mortal comprehension. She is the glinting sword that protects you from harm. Open yourself to Her embrace and overcome. She is Justice tempered with Mercy.

The fear of death is the source of much dishonor, and fear has no place in Her mysteries. Approach Her in silence and bare your breast to Her blade as a sign that you are free of fear. Otherwise, that which you seek of Her will destroy you if you fear it. Swallow your fear and go to Her, and you will discover true beauty, strength, and courage.

She is the dolmen arch beyond which stretch the mysteries of infinity. She is the mist in the twilight, the vast and starry sky of midnight, and shadows on the Moon. She is the silence before birth and after death. Think not that the forgiveness of your Lord will spare you from Her, for She has been with Him from the very beginning. She was with Him when the foundations of this world were set; even before the dust of the earth. You will meet Her at the crossroads between the worlds… where the paths meet.
